What is the Constitution Defenders Forum (CDF)?

The CDF is a civic response to an assault on the Constitution, Democracy and the Rule of Law.

Is the CDF a political party?

The CDF is not a political party, neither is it affiliated to any political party. It is a non-partisan people's platform that unites the voices of all role players and individuals who share the view that the constitution is sacred and must be protected and defended against abuse.

Can any political party and its members be part of CDF?

Yes, everyone who subscribes to the values of CDF is welcome. CDF does not interfere or compete with political formations. CDF is a loose, yet organized platform aimed at enabling like-minded Zimbabweans to speak with one voice and exercise their collective influence to build a better Zimbabwe.

Who can be part of CDF?

All Zimbabwean citizens including, Churches, Business leaders, Traditional leaders, War Veterans, Labor Unions, and Community based organizations, Informal traders and individuals who share the same cause, vision and values. By uniting we become the CDF.

Why value, defend and protect the constitution?

The constitution is the ultimate governing document of our motherland. It carries the aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe. The constitution is the ultimate social contract between the government and the people.

The constitution:

  • Establishes and ensures an agreed governance framework outlining the structure, powers and limits of government institutions
  • Protects individual rights ensuring equity, fairness and justice
  • Promotes accountability. The constitution provides checks and balances and prevents abuse of power
  • Sets out clear rules and processes ensuring stability and predictability
  • It is a reflection of the people's will and aspirations

Valuing the constitution and Constitutionalism promotes good governance, respect for human rights and promotes national development.

How does the CDF intend to Defend and Protect the constitution?

The CDF intends to protect and defend the constitution through various people centered programing interventions.

  • Promoting and Advancing constitutionalism -- this will be achieved through various training and awareness initiatives with emphasis on the importance of upholding constitutional principles and safeguarding the rights of citizens
  • Social Inclusion -- ensuring that marginalized groups are accommodated and making sure that their voices are heard and amplified by the CDF
  • Advocacy -- encouraging citizens to hold duty bearers accountable for constitutional adherence
